Financial Controller

Position Summary

XVanTech is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to serve a private equity firm and its portfolio companies on a full-time, remote basis. The Controller will own the accounting function across multiple portfolio entities, lead a team of accountants, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, manage US tax compliance, and serve as a trusted financial partner to the leadership and portfolio company management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close
  • Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process across multiple automotive portfolio companies.
  • Prepare and review consolidated and entity-level financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Ensure accuracy of accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
  • Deliver timely management reporting packages, KPIs, and variance analyses to the leadership.
US Tax & Compliance
  • Manage US federal, state, and local tax compliance across portfolio entities, including income, sales & use, payroll, and franchise taxes.
  • Coordinate with external CPAs and tax advisors on annual filings, quarterly estimates, K1s, and tax planning strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state nexus considerations relevant to dealership and service operations.
  • Maintain audit-ready records and lead responses to tax notices and audits.
Portfolio Company Support
  • Partner with portfolio company GMs and operators on financial performance, underwriting files, and operating reviews.
  • Support due diligence, integration, and onboarding of newly acquired dealerships and service centers.
  • Build and maintain financial models, underwriting templates, and KPI dashboards using shop management systems (e.g., Tekmetric) and dealership data.
  • Drive process improvements, internal controls, and standardization across the portfolio.
Team Leadership
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accountants; assign workloads, review work product, and ensure on-time deliverables.
  • Establish clear SOPs, documentation, and review checklists for recurring accounting tasks.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and proactive client communication.
Stakeholder Communication
  • Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for the principals and portfolio company leadership.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively in writing (email, Teams & Signal) and verbally (video calls) across US time zones.
  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and US federal and multi-state tax compliance.
  • Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting for multiple legal entities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing a team of accountants.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills — this is non-negotiable; the role requires daily direct interaction with US-based PE leadership and portfolio operators.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities across multiple portfolio companies.
  • Proficiency with NetSuite, Excel/Google Sheets (advanced), and modern accounting/reporting tools.
  • Reliable home office setup with stable high-speed internet and ability to work core US business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting private equity firms, family offices, or multi-entity portfolio environments.
  • Industry experience in automotive — auto dealerships, service centers, collision, or aftermarket.
  • Familiarity with shop management systems such as Tekmetric, CDK or CCCOne.
  • Experience with M&A due diligence, purchase accounting, and post-close integration.
What We Offer
  • 100% remote, full-time position with long-term stability.
  • Direct exposure to private equity leadership and high-growth automotive portfolio companies.
  • Opportunity to build and lead a high-performing accounting team.
  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
